There are two ways to subscribe to our feed. You can add us to your "My Yahoo Page" or you can add the RSS feeds for our site to a separate free newsreader program.
Do you see at the top left of the Scotland
Golf Breaks blog there is a little button that has XML written on it? Well you can add the feeds that this blog produces to what is known as a
feed reader. By adding the RSS or XML feed to your reader you never need to come back to this site to check for updates.
Every time you start the feedreader you will be notified if there are any new posts.
Say you wanted to keep up to date with what I write on the Scotland Golf
Breaks Blog.
One of the easiest ways of doing it is to go to yahoo.com and log into your My Yahoo page.
If you still don't have a My Yahoo page go to www.yahoo.com
and click on the My Yahoo icon at the top of the page to set one up. (My Yahoo pages are great, in fact, I set my browser to start at my "My Yahoo" page every day to get the news that I want)
OK once you have created a My Yahoo page you need to add the RSS Headlines (Beta)
module. To add the module select the "add content" link on the My Yahoo page and select the RSS Headlines (Beta) module.
Once you have successfully added the module to your My Yahoo simply come back here to
The Scotland Golf Breaks Blog and copy the address of the RSS feed.
You do that by selecting the XML button or the My Yahoo button
on the top left of the blog here. You need to copy that link that
the button points to into your module in my yahoo...
Copying and Pasting Tip: In Internet Explorer RIGHT CLICK on the
XML button then select "Copy Shortcut" then go to your newsreader and select "paste" or if there is no paste function just put your cursor where you want to paste and select ctrl + V on your keyboard.
For example:
You might want to keep track of all the posts I make on this website. All you do is put your mouse on the
XML button then right click and select "copy shortcut". You have just copied this..

Go back to your My Yahoo - click on the RSS module that you have added to your my yahoo page and select edit.. Place the mouse in the box and select
ctrl + V on your keyboard to paste the web address into the box. Yahoo will go out and search for my feed you added and will let you know if it has found and added it.
Next time you log into My Yahoo you will see if I have added any new posts to the
Scotland Golf Breaks Blog.. Clever eh! .. saves you coming back here every time to check for updates!
You don't have to use My Yahoo for your newsfeeds you could use a free newsreader program to read your blogs.
What is a "newsfeed reader" program?
Rather than manually checking in on each of the weblogs or news sites that you enjoy, you can instead use a newsfeed reader program that will compile all of the latest headlines and excerpts of your favorite sites that have enabled RSS - (sometimes known as Really Simple Syndication). With a newsfeed reader you can easily and freely subscribe to content from enabled websites.
For example:
Say there were several cooking weblogs that interested you like the
Scotland Golf Breaks Blog. All you do is click on one of the XML Syndication Buttons and copy the web address that comes up in your browser into your newsreader.
Now every time you fire your newsreader up it will check for updates on the
Scotland Golf Breaks Blog and list them for you. So there is never any need to come back to the website to look for updates. The newsreader will automatically pick the updates up. You just click on the link in your newsreader and you will be able to read the new posts.
Find a few other sites with Syndication feeds (XML or RSS Buttons) that interest you and subscribe to them as well. As often as you want, check the newsfeed reader as you would check email.
Feedreader.com - This is an excellent, very simple small and free, newsreader that you download to your own computer. Just add the feed URL address from the RSS or XML buttons on any site and it will update the new items every time you switch the newsreader on.
For example to subscribe to Scotland Golf Breaks Blog just add this web address to the feedreader newsreader:
http://feeds.feedburner.com/ScotlandGolf
Every time I make a post your newsreader will pick it up and you just read the post like you would read an email..
Several free newsfeed readers are available including:
Newsgator: Free Web browser reader.
NetNewsWire Lite - for the Mac
Feed Demon - a free trial for the PC
Bloglines.com - a web-based free newsfeed reader.
If you have a website and are not familiar with all this please do take the time to learn a little bit about this technology. Millions of blogs and websites are now enabled with RSS and in the future most mainstream content will be delivered to you this way. I hear the new Internet Explorer browser will even have and RSS feedreader built into it. Most other browsers like Firefox and Opera have it already.
I'll keep you posted on this site with any interesting information I can find
